Just now, I, along with some other people here, felt a longitudinal tremor that lasted for about 30 seconds. It was a slight tremor, as if the building was being gently shifted. However, all the furniture, including the desk the computer I am using is sitting on, undulated back and forth.

Although I have experienced this here before (here as in somewhere in the middle of California), this tremor was especially long and I do not know if it meant that a bigger earthquake occurred somewhere else in California just now. Let’s wait and see.

Right now as I publish this post is about 4 or 5 minutes after the tremor. It is 8:09 PM PST.

Update 8:16 PST: I received word that it was magnitude 5.6. However, epicenter is still not known.

Update 8:23 PST: Epicenter is about 8 km north-north-east of Alum Rock. USGS report here. Aftershock warning stated that “there is a small chance (APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 PERCENT) of an earthquake equal to or larger than this mainshock in the next 7 days.”
