Grand Revelation Lets not go off the enlightenment pun too much now.

Well,  so far, the ZenPhoto/Wordpress bridge seems to be working. I just installed ZenWordpress (formerly known as ZenPress before the branding issue) and it seems to be finally working. Initially, I had some issues with the image not showing up and me getting a 500 internal service error but I seem to have fixed that with some tweaking with the .htaccess file. Hopefully, after some more tweaking, I can finally completely do away with Gallery2 and use ZenPhoto to its potential.

Speaking of .htaccess, I am planning to also do away with ugly URL’s with those ?this=that&whatnots with the .htaccess/mod_rewrite stuffs with this blog. That will come soon. I will need to make some adjustments to Haiku.legacy first. Anyway, stay tuned for more.

I got to say, the launch of the new Zune lineup came with a lot more to be impressed about. Along with the Zune 80, 4 and 8 came a visually-stunning, redesigned Zune.net website, the Zune Social, and the new Zune software. Microsoft seriously put the visual appeal factor in all of these. I am especially impressed with the smoothness and the visual effects of the Zune software. It has the functionality of iTunes with more flashy animations but is far less of a resource hog.

Equally amazing is the 2.2 firmware upgrade for the Zune 30. The new firmware is undoubtedly more animated but also runs a lot smoother than the 1.x firmware which tended to lag very frequently. However, there is one mystery I have yet to figure out. Apparently there are preview images for videos but somehow, they are not appearing. This may be resolved through the desktop software but I will need to eventually get a new comp first.

Screenshots to follow…eventually.

I guess it worked. Apparently I did not have to upgrade my database at all, probably because I was going from 2.3 to 2.3.1. Anyway, please report any bugs. I’ll look myself. Other than that, we’re back in business.

Aaand Zune.net is currently “undergoing maintenance.” I guess the launch of 2.0’s en proceso at the moment. Guess I will have to wait until “tomorrow” to see all the new stuff.

Alright, I’m finally updating Wordpress to 2.3.1. Hopefully all goes well.

Other than that, Zune 2.0 comes out tomorrow…uh…today (its 12:03 PST). I can’t wait for the upgrade.

See you (hopefully) after the break.

Glittering river of life
stretching on forever more
concrete, asphalt veins that cross
lacquered plains and mountainsides.
Single traveler on the way
mingling with hundreds more
silent family saturate
with the roar of wheel and ground
traveling together, heading towards
the distant city lights ahead.

It’s that time of the year again when we change the time…this time setting our clocks back an hour. Daylight Savings Time ended today. I welcome this change much more than its half-brother, when DST begins, as setting my clocks back an hour means theoretically staying up an hour later and sleeping in an hour later. This is perfect because I am both a hardcore insomniac and an anti-morning person. :D

Well, I could have thrown a Haiku off of this theme as I did back with the Haiku.autumnal announcement post. But…I’m not going to because I can’t think of anything right now. :D

Anyway, there it is, the first screenshot of the Haiku.inspired (still considering the product(red) reference) theme. This is the album/subalbum view, the only component complete so far other than the global components. As I did with Haiku.legacy (the Wordpress variant), I code all the HTML/CSS first before doing the PHP work with the application-specific API. ZenPhoto is said to be very themeable but some of the HTML such as for the album listings are a bit complex so let’s hope so it will be ultimately compatible.

p.s., Yes..I uploaded this screenie on Gallery2 and not the new gallery. The thing is, I still have not found a working and tested Wordpress plugin that allows me to insert ZenPhoto images. I will complete the switch when I find one.

I’m working right away to do away with Gallery2. The new gallery is already up and running. However, the only stuff there currently are my 2006 and 2007 photographic portfolio. The rest will come soon. Furthermore, it’d be great if a Wordpress plugin (sidebar widget and such) for ZenPhoto bridging will be released soon. There was one created for the old version of ZenPhoto, but it is doubtful that it works with 1.1.

Anyway, here we are: Powervortex:gallery

Edit: the :gallery theme is still the ZenPhoto default. The Haiku variant (Haiku.inspired) is in the works.

ZenPhoto 1.1 is OUT! Just read the release here few minutes ago. Well, for now, the ZenPhoto homepage is still the same as before but here are the download links: .zip .tar.gz.

Anyway, let me be the first to say, great job ZenPhoto Team! (Actually, I am.)

Now, hopefully the Wordpress plugins and whatnot will soon follow.

A friend sent me this…apparently some professor asked on a “Momentum, Heat, and Mass Transfer” exam, whether Hell is endothermic or exothermic. Anyway, here it is:

Is Hell Endothermic or Exothermic?

Dr. Schlambaugh, a senior lecturer at the Chemical Engineering
Department,University of Oklahoma, is known for posing questions on
final exams like: “Why do airplanes fly?”

In May a few years ago, the “Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer ” exam
paper contained the question:

“Is Hell exothermic or endothermic? Support your answer with proof.”

Most students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law or
similar. One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we must postulate that if souls exist, they must have some mass.
If they do, then a mole of souls also must have a mass. So, at what rate
are souls moving into hell and at what rate are souls leaving? I think
we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it does not leave.
Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for souls entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that
exist in the world today. Some religions say that if you are not a
member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there are more than
one of these religions, and people do not belong to more than one
religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to Hell. With
the birth and death rates what they are, we can expect the number of
souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of
change in the volume of Hell. Boyle’s Law states that in order for the
temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the ratio of the mass
of the souls and volume needs to stay constant.

[Answer 1] So, if Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at
which souls enter Hell, then the temperature in Hell will increase until
all Hell breaks loose.

[Answer 2] Of course, if Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the
increase in souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop
until Hell freezes over.

So which is it? If we accept the postulate (given to me by Teresa Banyan
during freshman year) that “it’ll be a cold day in Hell before I sleep
with you”, and taking into account that I still have not succeeded in
having sexual relations with her, then [Answer 2] cannot be correct;
…… thus, Hell is exothermic.

The student got the only A.
