First of all, Happy Halloween! Due to various factors, I am again before (somebody else’s) computer screen in lieu of going out trick-or-treating.

Secondly, as another new month approaches (and another month passes permanently :\), I have ruminated about what’s coming up in the near future that I can look forward to. Here goes:

  • November 1: Tomorrow, ZenPhoto 1.1 will be released (hopefully)! Finally, the subalbum-supported release is stable. I really can’t wait to set up a new gallery and not have to worry about any end-user problems, such as those that the bloated Gallery2 tends to have.
  • November 3: WEEKEND!!! And especially the weekend after the completion of the (I will not go into details) heavy workload of this week. Even more so, I will finally be able to return the power supply and hopefully finally fix my computer.
  • November 13: The second-generation Zune lineup is released. Although I am not getting a new Zune, I will have the highly-anticipated firmware update that gives my Zune 30 all the new features (as well as the sleek new UI).
  • November late-20-ish: Turkey Day! I am still compiling the list of stuff I am thankful for (and believe me when I say the list is pretty damn long :D)…and there’s also the day-after-Turkey-Day shopping sprees (for me, its all the heavily- discounted geek stuff :]).

Anyway, just laying out what’s ahead.

Just now, I, along with some other people here, felt a longitudinal tremor that lasted for about 30 seconds. It was a slight tremor, as if the building was being gently shifted. However, all the furniture, including the desk the computer I am using is sitting on, undulated back and forth.

Although I have experienced this here before (here as in somewhere in the middle of California), this tremor was especially long and I do not know if it meant that a bigger earthquake occurred somewhere else in California just now. Let’s wait and see.

Right now as I publish this post is about 4 or 5 minutes after the tremor. It is 8:09 PM PST.

Update 8:16 PST: I received word that it was magnitude 5.6. However, epicenter is still not known.

Update 8:23 PST: Epicenter is about 8 km north-north-east of Alum Rock. USGS report here. Aftershock warning stated that “there is a small chance (APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 PERCENT) of an earthquake equal to or larger than this mainshock in the next 7 days.”

Finally, Tristan, the lead developer for the ZenPhoto gallery script has announced a release date for ZenPhoto 1.1: the day after tomorrow, November 1, 2007.

Finally, I will be able to replace the creaky Gallery2 with something a lot more usable, lightweight, and, most importantly, more customizable. Great work, ZenPhoto team! I look forward to 1.1’s release.

Alright, I bought a new power supply for my exploded PC last week.

Today, I finally took the power supply out of the box, unplugged the wires noting where they go to, and removed the old exploded one, and tried to fit the new power supply in the empty space where the old one used to be.

All was well until the last step.

The new power supply, although the guy at Fry’s Electronics said that it was “standard-size” and that it should work, turned out to be the wrong size. While it should work theoretically, the physical dimensions of the device makes it impossible to secure it to the system unit and prevent it from moving or, even worse, detaching and crashing down through the five expansion cards below it.

So…I have to now take it back to Fry’s, return it, and show the dude my old power supply and see if they carry those as well.

No PC for another few weeks :/

That is the question.

Heh, I just realized as I wrote that [^], how far I actually can go with my cheesy reference to Hamlet’s famous “to be, or not to be” soliloquy.

Well, apparently there’s a new feature in WordPress 2.3 that notifies you of new WordPress versions as well. I logged in today to write a post about new power supply woes (please see next post) and such and noticed this:

221

Apparently WP 2.3.1’s out and it has another battery of new features/fixes/whatever that warrants the WP Admin control panel to bug me about it on every freaking page.

In any case, I will see what’s new with this release. However, due to other priorities and the fact that my PC is still incapacitated, I will not get the chance to mess with anything with the word “upgrade” in it for several weeks.

Okay, this is actually one of the classic cases of “changing one’s username.” My old account is http://motosuwa-san.deviantart.com; I have created a new account under my new username, Alltruist (http://alltruist.deviantart.com), and I will migrate all my art to the new account.

To prove this is not a lie, I will post a similar notice on my old account. I will eventually migrate/re-release all of my Deviations from my old account to the new one as soon as I fix my broken computer as I plan to do the resize/picture frame job on the unprocessed photos from my early DevART days.

Esa es mi primero poema en español. He estudiado el español para cuatro años y me gusta este idioma mucho porque lo es muy bonito.

De Tuyo

Estrella de mi cielo, inspiración,
¿pero brilles tú ahora para mí?
He seguido tu luz, viajando a ti,
porque de mi vida, eres mi razón.

La voz de tu corazón, tu canción,
¿estás cantando ahora para mí?
Tus palabras que escucho hoy aquí
me inspiran, ir a mi destinación.

Well, I got my new power supply today from Frys. I still have to carefully remove the broken one and note what wire goes where. Since my computer is about a decade old, there is still the question of compatibility in terms of the connectors and such. Anyway, when I get around to installing the new power supply, I will finally know if the power supply was the only component damaged in the epic frying last week. We’ll see.

Well, my nearly decade-old comp just died on me. I was doing my usual work when a loud BOOM came from the system unit and the machine shut off. My first thought was, oh crap! power surge. But then, I went down there to see what was wrong and I smelled the dreaded stench of burning plastic.

While I couldn’t find anything apparently wrong at first glance after opening the tower, the burning plastic smell seemed to be coming from the power supply. If the mobo/CPU or power supply are the parts damaged, I will be able to sleep. Yes, I know, my comp’s dead but right now, I am most worried about the hard drives because in the past with my messing with OS’s, MBR, etc., I made sure that I preserved my data as its pretty much my soul :D. Dead mobo, I can live with since I’m getting a new machine soon. Lost data will give me MANY sleepless nights.

Well..for now, I am on a borrowed machine with my trusty USB-stick-lifeboat with a backup of my website stuff, the files I need for work (which I would usually sync with my comp), and my faithful handful of portable apps. Hopefully, I can either fix my machine or figure something else.

More from the Canada trip:

Other than that, I’m still waiting for ZenPhoto 1.1 so I can get rid of G2 once and for all. :D On that note, there is yet another Haiku variation for the future gallery, Haiku.Inspired. It will be a burgundy/beige flavor made solely for ZP.
